In commemoration of Calypso History Month, the National Trust of Trinidad and Tobago will host its third annual Vintage Calypso competition on Nelson Island on the Nelson Island Heritage Site.
The event will feature Lord Superior with supporting acts which include Lord Relator, GB, Poser, Lady Adanna and Abebele.
Andrew Marcano, sobriquet “Lord Superior” is a multi-talented artiste who began singing calypso at the age of 16 at the Victory Calypso Tent, Port of Spain and later at the Young Brigade Calypso Tent with fellow calypsonians Mighty Sparrow and King Fighter.
His contributions to calypso have paved the way for many in the fraternity. He was the first calypsonian to produce a record on his own record label; the first to perform at the Madison Square Gardens, New York, USA and the first to produce a full-length calypso musical.
Lord Superior celebrated his Diamond Jubilee in 2014, and was awarded the Hummingbird Medal (silver) in 2015. This year, he will receive an Honorary Doctors of Letters (DLitt) at the 2017 graduation ceremony at University of the West Indies, St Augustine Campus.
Tickets are available at the National Trust of Trinidad and Tobago’s Office, 68-70 Sackville Street, Port-of-Spain, San Fernando Water Taxi Terminal and the Port-of-Spain Water Taxi Terminal.
