Man, 42, arrested for child abuse
A 42-year-old man is expected to appear before a Port-of-Spain Magistrate on Tuesday to answer to charges of two counts of cruelty to a child and one count of assault by beating.
This follows a joint investigation by officers of the Gender Based Violence Unit (GBVU) and the Child Protection Unit (CPU) into an incident involving a report of child abuse on Saturday.
It is alleged that the suspect entered a bedroom of the home in which the victims were situated after which a quarrel ensued.
The man reportedly became violent, causing the victims to contact the police.
A joint investigation, spearheaded by W/Supt George and ASP Nowbutt, supervised by Insp Andrews was immediately launched and concluded with the arrest and charges to the suspect by WPC Mylan-Bostic of the Port-of-Spain CPU.
This latest case brings to total 58 persons charged for crimes against children contrary to the Children’s Act 46:01 for 2020.
The GBVU was launched on January 21 by Commissioner of Police, Gary Griffith, to address and handle cases of gender-based and domestic violence in Trinidad and Tobago.
