Man accused of attempting to impersonate attorney

A 31-year-old man who allegedly attempted to impersonate a lawyer at the Tunapuna Magistrates’ Court last week, has been charged.

The suspect was expected to return to the Tunapuna Magistrates’ Court on Monday to answer to the allegations.

He was charged under section 90 of the Legal Profession Act and can potentially face a fine of up to $5,000 or one year of hard labour for his ruse.

The suspect was due to appear before Magistrate Adrian Darmanie in the First Court.

On Friday, the suspect was held after he attempted to represent a relative in court.

He was held after police realised he was not an attorney, and subsequent checks were made to confirm this.

More on this as it becomes available.
