Man arrested in connection with rape of 10-year-old child
The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) said a man was arrested on seven counts of sexual penetration of a 10-year-old child and one count of attempted suffocation.
In a statement issued today, the TTPS said child was sexually assaulted on numerous occasions and on one occasion the perpetrator attempted to suffocate the child with a pillow.
The TTPS said officers of the North Eastern Division Child Protection Unit (CPU) arrested the man on seven counts of sexual penetration of a child and one count of attempted suffocation.
The exercise was spearheaded by W/Supt (Ag) George, ASP Nowbutt, and supervised by Insp Davidson.
The TTPS said the child confided in her aunt and grandmother that she was being repeatedly raped.
A report was made to the Child Protection Unit North Eastern Division, and PC Hospedales was detailed to conduct enquiries.
His investigations revealed that during the period March 2019 and September 9, 2020, the girl was sexually assaulted on numerous occasions by the suspect and during one encounter he attempted to suffocate her using a pillow.
On September 14, 2020, the 44-year-old unemployed man was arrested and charged for the offences.
The suspect is expected to appear virtually at the Port of Spain Magistrates’ Court today.
