Man caught red-handed after stealing $15K in cellphones from store
A Sea Lots man is now in police custody after he was caught breaking into a cellular phone store in the Port-of-Spain district.
The 30-year-old was arrested by officers of the Port-of-Spain Division Task Force after being found in the store located at Frederick Street, Port-of-Spain, around 9:32 pm on Monday.
The owner reportedly secured the premises and activated the store’s alarm system around 6:30 pm on the same day and left.
He was later notified that the alarm system was triggered.
On arrival at the scene, the owner noticed that the store’s front window was broken and officers were detaining a suspect who had just exited the building through the broken window.
Six cellular phones: a Samsung S8, Samsung S8 Plus, Samsung J7, Apple iPhone 5, Apple iPhone 5S and a Blu 3TE Smartphone, valued at $15,000, were reported as missing by the owner.
The suspect is being held at the Besson Street Police Station where he is expected to be charged with store breaking and larceny.
