Man caught stealing cell tower batteries

A 21-year-old man is in police custody after he allegedly tampered with a TSTT cell tower and stole seven batteries, valued at $16,000.

The accused, from Akal Trace, Santa Cruz, was arrested on Thursday, at the cell-site located at Danpath Road, D’abadie.

According to police reports, an alarm at the cell-site went off and Estate Corporal Harrysingh, along with other officers, were dispatched to investigate.

Upon arriving, they observed a silver Nissan B14 motor vehicle parked along the roadway.

A search of the car was done and the batteries were discovered in the back seat.

As a result, the suspect was taken to the Maloney police station where he was to be questioned and brought before an Arima Magistrate.
