Man chopped across the face while fighting off bandits

A 22-year-old man was chopped across his face with a cleaver on Sunday night.

Police were told that at about 10.30 pm the victim was at an apartment of a female friend and her family along Pineapple Drive, Valencia, when two men entered the premises.

The men had t-shirts over their faces, and one man was armed with a cleaver.

They announced a hold up and the 22-year-old resisted.

This lead to a struggle, during which the victim was chopped across the face.

The assailants relieved the group of over $2,500 in cash, and electronics before fleeing the scene.

The police and paramedics were notified and the injured man was rushed to the Sangre Grande District Hospital where he was treated.

The victim is said to be in a stable condition, and his injury is not life threatening.

WPC Stephen Sammy is continuing investigations.
