Man in court for assaulting police officers

A 22-year-old Maraval man who allegedly assaulted three police officers in the execution of their duties was due to appear before a Port of Spain Magistrate on Monday morning.

The accused, of Boissiere #1, Maraval, was arrested along with a 17-year-old boy from the area during a police exercise led by Senior Superintendent Daniel, Inspector Lopez, and Corporal Budri.

They were initially held on Thursday night during a massive police exercise in the district which led to the recovery of firearms and illegal drugs.

The two suspects were questioned and are facing charges of using obscene language, resisting arrest while the older man faces charges of assaulting three police officers.

Loaded firearm found at woman's Maloney home

In a separate incident, a woman was due to appear in court on Monday after a loaded firearm was found at her home. 

According to police reports the 32-year-old woman was due to appear before an Arima Magistrate after a loaded firearm was found in her home at Building 7, Maloney Gardens on Friday night.

She was arrested during a police exercise on Friday night by officers of the Maloney Police Station.

The exercise was coordinated by ACP McDonald Jacob, spearheaded by Snr Sup Curtis Paul, and supervised by Sgt Rene Katwaroo and Cpl Ali.

During the exercise, the officers executed a search warrant at the home of the woman, and one black berretta combat 92 hand pistol, containing an extended magazine and 12 rounds of 9mm ammunition was found.

As a result, the suspect was arrested and taken into custody.
