Man in court for stealing neighbour's jewellery
A 23-year-old labourer from Santa Cruz has been remanded into custody after appearing before a Port of Spain Magistrate, charged with stealing a gold hand band from his neighbour’s home.
The incident is believed to have occurred sometime between August 2 and August 6.
Christopher De Silva, 23, a labourer, of Pipiol Road, Santa Cruz, plead not guilty to the charge of larceny dwelling house, when he appeared before Port of Spain Magistrate Nazim Khan, in the Port of Spain 11th Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
He was remanded into custody and the matter adjourned to Thursday.
The victim, a 35-year-old woman from Pipiol Road, Santa Cruz, told police that she placed a gold hand band on a dresser in her bedroom on August 2, secured her home, and left.
The hand band was found to be missing four days later.
A report was subsequently made to the police.
Investigations resulted in a man from the district being arrested in connection with the theft last Sunday.
De Silva was charged by WPC Cowie Massy, from the Santa Cruz Police Station the same day.
