Man in custody after Superintendent shot

One man is in police custody following the shooting of a Superintendent of police on Sunday morning.

The suspect was held just after midday Sunday by officers of the Northern Division.

Loop News was told that they a team of officers led by Cpl Griffith and Cpl Bridgemohansingh, were conducting patrols when they received intelligence which led them to a bushy area off Factory Road Extension, Oropune Gardens.

The officers made their way into a bamboo patch, where they observed a man trying to hide in an Immortelle Tree.

The man, police said, was about 20 feet off the ground.

The officers called on the man to surrender, and he came down.

He was subsequently arrested.

A search of the immediate area was conducted, however, nothing illegal was found.

This operation was overseen by Snr Sup David, with assistance from Cpl Jaggasar, PC Remy, PC Guevara, WPC Thomas, PC St Clair, PC Kerr, among others.

The suspect, police said was wanted in connection with the shooting of Superintendent Garvin Simon.

Simon, police said, was shot in the leg on Sunday morning at the Airport Gateway Service Station in Piarco, during a robbery attempt.

He shot back at his attackers, causing them to flee.

It was suspected that one of the men had been injured in the incident, which was captured on CCTV footage.
