Man dead following shootout with police near Couva Children's Hospital
A police shootout has left one man dead in Central, Trinidad.
The victim has been identified as 24-year-old Keon Moore of Circular Drive, Crown Trace, Enterprise.
Loop TT was told that around 3:15 pm police were on inquiries in the Preysal district when they observed Moore driving a car.
Sources say he was wanted for several shootings, woundings and robberies in the Central Divison.
Officers approached the suspect, however, Moore reportedly sped off.
A chase ensued along the Sir Solomon Solomon Hochoy Highway and sources say on passing the Preysal flyover, Moore shot at police.
He then lost control of the vehicle which crashed into the median. The 34-year-old man exited the vehicle and continued to shoot at police. Officers returned fire and he was fatally wounded.
He was taken to the Couva Health Centre where he was pronounced dead.
A pistol and ammunition were recovered at the scene.
The deceased was allegedly known to police as a high ranking member of the Unruly Isis Muslim gang.
