Man dies following altercation at Central Market

A man succumbed to his injuries at hospital following an altercation at the Central Market, Port of Spain on Thursday morning.

He has been identified as Phillip Cummings, also known as Sharkie.

According to reports, around 4.30 am PC Sebasser and a party from the Port-of-Spain Municipal Police were on patrol at the Central Market, when they received a report of an altercation at the market.

Upon checking, they found the deceased and another man, only identified as "Reddo", nursing injuries.

Further enquiries revealed that a suspect of Maraval was approaching his stall at the market, when he observed both men allegedly breaking into his stall.

He confronted them and an altercation ensued.

The suspect reportedly dealt both men several blows with a piece of wood.

The injured men were taken to the Port-of Spain General Hospital for medical treatment.

Cummings later succumbed to his injuries, while the other man remains warded.

The suspect was arrested and is assisting police with their investigation.
