Man drowns at Clifton Hill beach lime

A 31-year-old man from Tableland is dead after drowning during a family outing at the Clifton Hill Beach in Point Fortin on Sunday.

Vidal Mahabir, of Local Road, Tableland, went in to the water shortly after 4 pm.

However, he encountered difficulty not long after and went under the water.

A search carried out by relatives proved futile.

His body resurfaced 20 minutes later.

Efforts to revive an unconscious Mahabir failed.

Mahabir was rushed to the Point Fortin District Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

An autopsy is expected to be performed at the San Fernando Mortuary.
