Man on drug trafficking, pornography charges back in court
A 52-year-old man is expected to re-appear before a San Fernando Magistrate Friday on allegations of showing pornography to a schoolgirl and trafficking cocaine in front of a secondary school.
The accused, Christopher Nandlal, of La Romaine, will make his second appearance in the courts on this matter.
He originally appeared on Wednesday before Magistrate Kerianne Byer.
At that court appearance, the charges were laid indictably and Nandlal was not called upon to enter a plea.
The matter was adjourned to today in an attempt to secure background tracings on the accused, and to transfer it to the relevant court to be heard.
The 52-year-old man was not granted bail.
He was arrested on Tuesday morning in front of the ASJA Girls’ College in San Fernando.
According to police reports, a team of officers from the San Fernando Police Station, including PC Seedharie and PC Ramesar, were on mobile patrol in the area when they observed the suspect showing pornography to the girl as she was walking past him.
As a result, Nandlal was stopped and searched.
In his possession, officers allegedly found and seized, four drawing books with sketches of people engaging in sexual intercourse; five compact discs with pornography; a Sunday punch; and a quantity of cocaine.
As a result of the finds, he was arrested and taken to the San Fernando Police Station where he was charged by PC Redhead.
Nandlal was charged with intentionally exposing a child to pornography, contrary to Section 41 of the Children’s Act; and being in possession of cocaine within 500 metres of Asja Girls’ College for the purpose of trafficking.
