Update: Man shot and killed in Port of Spain identified
The man who was shot dead in Port of Spain on Sunday afternoon has been identified as 22-year-old Nicholas Antoine.
Antoine, police said, was from Diego Martin.
He was fatally shot at about 3:10 pm on Sunday while along the eastern pavement of Broadway Road, Port of Spain, in the vicinity of Maraj and Sons Jewellers.
According to reports, the victim was standing along the roadway next to someone who was painting the wall, when two men exited a Toyota Rav 4 which had pulled up next to them.
Several loud explosions were then heard, and the two assailants were observed brandishing what appeared to be firearms.
Antoine, police said, was shot multiple times about the body.
The assailants then returned to the vehicle and fled the scene.
Thankfully, despite the openness of the attack, no other injuries were reported.
The police were notified and a district medical officer was called to the scene to view the body. Homicide officers are expected to secure CCTV footage from the area to assist them in identifying the suspects.
An autopsy was scheduled to take place on Monday at the Forensic Science Center in St James.
