Man gets $5,000 bail for beating ex-girlfriend

A 32-year-old man has been granted $5,000 own bail after appearing before a Scarborough Magistrate on Tuesday to answer to the charge of assault by beating.

Kern Duncan, an electrician of Bethal, Tobago, pleaded not guilty to the charge at a virtual hearing in the Scarborough 2nd Magistrates’ Court.

The matter was postponed to July 31.

Duncan was arrested by officers of the Gender-Based Violence Unit (GBVU), Tobago Division, after the victim reported to police that on the afternoon of June 6, she was allegedly assaulted by the accused during an argument at his home.

PC Sandy of the GDVU Tobago Division immediately launched an investigation into the report which resulted in the arrest of Duncan on
Monday.

The GBVU noted that all reports made will be thoroughly investigated with them aim of bringing all perpetrators to justice.

All victims of gender-based crimes are surged to report all cases to ensure that police can provide the necessary support.
