Man held with 300 g of weed

Come Monday, marijuana will be decriminalised for possession of small amounts (30 grammes and less).

However, while most may be celebrating, a 58-year-old man will be appearing before a Port of Spain Magistrate for possession of marijuana for the purposes of trafficking.

The suspect was held with 300 grammes of marijuana at the Transport Yard of the Port of Spain City Corporation during a police exercise by officers of the Port of Spain Division.

The exercise, which was led by Sgt Greene and consisted of Cpl Maharaj and PC McGuirk, among others, saw officers of the City Police receive intelligence on Friday afternoon which led to the facility off Mucurapo Road.

The 58-year-old man was searched and he was detained after the drugs were found in his possession.

He has since been charged with possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking as he was found within 500 metres of the Mucurapo West Secondary School.

PC McGuirk is continuing inquiries.
