Man held for robbing woman on early morning run

A 28-year-old man was scheduled to appear before a Sangre Grande Magistrate on Wednesday after he allegedly robbed a woman at gunpoint.

The victim told police that around 4.30 am on Tuesday, she was running along Brooklyn Road, Sangre Grande, near her home, when she was accosted by a man not known to her.

The man pulled out a firearm and announced a hold-up.

He then proceeded to relieve the woman of her cash, cell phone, and other valuables which she had on her person.

The man then fled the scene on foot.

The woman raised an alarm and notified the police.

Officers from the Sangre Grade CID, including PC Diaz and PC Blake, responded.

Acting on intelligence received, the officers were able to detain a man who matched the description given some time later.

At the time of his arrest, he was held with a revolver which was loaded with two rounds of ammunition.

He also had in his possession all of the items reported stolen from the victim.

More on this as it becomes available.
