Man held with firearm in Malick

A 25-year-old man was due to appear before a Port of Spain Magistrate on Tuesday after he was held with a loaded firearm.

The suspect was arrested along Upper Sixth Avenue, Malick, during a police exercise by officers of the North Eastern Division Task Force.

The officers, acting on information received, made their way to the area at about 3.30 am on Sunday, where they conducted patrols.

During these patrols, officers had cause to stop and search the 25-year-old man.

It was said that on seeing the police, he began to act in a suspicious manner, by turning around and walking away from the lawmen.

The officers pursued the suspect and confronted him.

A search of his person resulted in the seizure of a semi-automatic 9mm firearm, loaded with 10 rounds of ammunition.

As a result of the find, he was immediately arrested.

The exercise was supervised by Snr Sup Sagramsingh, and included assistance from Sup Phillip, Sgt Guelmo, and Cpl Lavia, among several others.

More on this as it becomes available.
