Man held with stolen items following cop’s robbery

A 22-year-old man has been detained following the robbery of a police sergeant.

The suspect, who is from Oropune Gardens, was held on Sunday morning during a police operation led by Snr Sup David.

The officers, who were led by Sgt Highly of the Arouca CID, received intelligence which led them to the home of the suspect.

At the location, the officers executed a search warrant in the presence of the 22-year-old, and several items which were reported stolen, including a cellular phone, were recovered. The suspect was taken into custody as a result, and is expected to appear before an Arima Magistrate today.

LoopTT was told that the robbery took place on April 25, at Exposition Drive, Trincity, in the vicinity of Popeye’s. The suspect assaulted the woman-sergeant, in the process of relieving her of her valuables. He then fled the scene on foot.

During the same operation in Oropune Gardens on Sunday morning, another man was held in connection with 19 outstanding warrants, several for robbery related offences.

He is expected to be questioned before being brought before an Arima Magistrate.
