Man killed after high-speed chase, shootout with police
A high-speed chase and a shootout with officers of the Northern Division Task Force led to the killing of a 30-year-old man.
The deceased has been identified as Damion George of Water Bridge Road, Diego Martin.
Police said they received a report of housebreaking and robbery around 12.30 am on Tuesday morning.
An all-points bulletin was issued giving the description of the suspects and the vehicle they used to get away.
Around 1.17 am, police observed a vehicle which matched the description given – a silver Mitsubishi Lancer with a “shark mouth” faced front – which had two occupants as stated in the bulletin in the vicinity of the University of the West Indies.
The officers attempted to intercept the car, however, the vehicle sped away.
A chase ensued, during which the police came under fire.
The officers returned fire, and upon reaching the vicinity of Grand Bazaar, the vehicle was intercepted.
In the chaos, one man fled the scene, while another was found nearby suffering mortal injuries.
A pistol was recovered at the scene of the shootout.
No police officers were injured in this incident.
