Man killed as pickup crosses median, hits his car

A 41-year-old man is dead after a vehicular accident which occurred along the Churchill Roosevelt Highway around 4 am on Monday.

The victim has been identified as Rudra Sookdeo of Coal Mine, Sangre Grande.

According to reports, a black Nissan Navara, which was being driven by a 30-year-old man, was heading in an easterly direction in the vicinity of Food Basket supermarket, near the O'Meara Road intersection, when it got a flat tyre and crossed the median, colliding head-on with Sookdeo's vehicle.

Sookdeo's car received extensive damage and stopped along the grass on the southern side of the highway.

Meanwhile, the van stopped along the centre of the westbound lane. 

Sookdeo died on the scene.

His body was removed with the "Jaws of Life" by firefighters.

The other driver was taken to the Mt Hope Hospital after he complained of chest pains.
