Man killed in Tobago accident
One man is dead and several persons injured following a motor vehicular accident on Monday in Tobago.
According to police reports, at about 7:00 am yesterday, Asher Benjamin was attempting to overtake a line of vehicles by using the shoulder lane of the Claude Noel Highway, between Lambeau and the Signal Hill traffic lights.
At the time, he was on the shoulder lane.
Benjamin, police were told, was diving his gold Nissan Almera vehicle “with speed”, however, it appeared as though he did not realise that a van was parked along the shoulder lane.
By the time he realized the van was parked there, Benjamin attempted to swerve to avoid the vehicle.
Unfortunately, he swerved into traffic, hitting two other cars, including one which was heading west.
One man succumbed to the injuries sustained, while at least three persons were taken to the Scarborough General Hospital to be treated.
This is the second fatal road traffic accident in Tobago this year.
Neil Roberts, 45, was killed along Claude Noel Highway when he was struck by a car as he was driving his motor bike.
More on this as it becomes available.
