Man robbed, shot
A 30-year-old man is nursing a gunshot injury to his hand following a shooting at Chandernagore Settlement, Caroni.
Police say the victim was driving along Giley’s Road, Cunupia, around 11pm on Tuesday, when he pulled aside to relieve himself.
However, while standing at the side of the car, he was confronted by two men.
One of the men was said to be armed with a firearm.
The men demanded the victim’s cash, following which they threw him into the trunk of the car.
The bandits left the victim in the trunk of the car for over 11 hours.
It was not until around 10 am on Wednesday that the bandits opened the trunk and released the man.
They shot the victim on his right hand and warned him to count to 20 before leaving the scene, or they would kill him.
The assailants then drove off.
The victim complied with instructions, and was then able to flag down another vehicle for assistance.
He was taken to the Chaguanas police station and later to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex.
