A 24-year-old man has been sentenced to 15 months hard labour after he allegedly robbed and beat a woman in Princes Town last week.

Kadeen Mc Kain, of Springhill, Toradale, appeared before Magistrate Indira Misir-Gosine of the Princes Town Magistrates’ Court.

He was charged for assault, and for robbery with violence. He pled guilty to the offences.

The court was told that Mc Kain also had six previous convictions of a similar nature, so he was given a custodial sentence.

The incident took place at about 1.25 pm on August 26.

The victim was in the car park area of JD's Mall, High Street, Princes Town when Mc Kain walked up to her, announced a hold up and proceeded to beat her about the body until she gave up her handbag and personal items, including a gold chain, two gold pendants and her cellular phone.

He fled the scene.

The police were notified and investigations led to the arrest of Mc Kain on Tuesday. He was questioned, charged, and brought before the courts yesterday.
