Man sentenced to hard labour for house breaking

A 25-year-old man who was charged with housebreaking and larceny has been sentenced to five years of hard labour. 

Jessie Kelly, of Manzanilla, appeared Magistrate Brambhanan Dubay on Monday at the Sangre Grande Magistrates' Court. 

He was charged by PC Baran. He plead guilty to the offence.  

Due to having previous matters of a similar nature, he was given a custodial sentence. 

The incident took place last Wednesday afternoon in Manzanilla where he allegedly broke into a shop and stole a quantity of alcohol and cash. 

The police were notified and officers received intelligence which led them to Kelly's home. The premises were searched and the stolen items were found. 

When Kelly was brought to the station, the victim was making a report and was able to identify the items that had been stolen only moments before. 

Kelly was held in an operation led by Sgt Bhim and Sgt Racha and included officers of the Eastern Division Task Force.
