Man sets out into Piparo forest, does not come out alive

A 52-year-old man is now dead after a brief venture into a forested area in Piparo on Wednesday, turned deadly.

The victim is Lincoln Kumar Callapersad of  Ecclesvillage, Williamsville.

Reports say around 7 am, Callapersad went into the bushes near Johnstone Road, Piparo along with 19-year-old Haseem Naffarali of Poonah Road, Williamsville.

Naffarali told Princes Town Police that he walked a short distance ahead of Callapersad but while on his way, heard an explosion and screams. On checking, the teen saw Callapersad lying on the ground. According to him, the 52-year-old said he was shot to the back of the knee.

He contacted the nearest police station and a party of officers responded and found the middle-aged man lying motionless in a crouched position. There was a rat trap among other items, five feet away.

Callaparsad’s body was removed after a District Medical Officer visited the scene, observed the wound to the left knee, and pronounced him dead.

The victim is believed to have been killed by a trap gun. However, investigations are continuing.
