Man shoots self in the head while 'playing' with weapon

A 22-year-old man is currently warded at the San Fernando General Hospital, after a firearm he was allegedly playing with, went off, hitting him in the head.

The incident allegedly took place at about 12.10 pm on Saturday, at the man's home along Kroomen Settlement, South Oropouche.

However, the weapon had not been recovered up to Sunday midday.

Police were told the 22-year-old was in the company of his girlfriend and was seen brandishing and playing with a handheld weapon.

However, the gun discharged, and he was struck to the head.

The police were notified and a team of officers led by Insp Mathura and Sgt Ramdeo visited the scene.

The injured man was rushed to the San Fernando General Hospital and is said to be in a stable condition.

Several persons have been interviewed and inquiries are ongoing.
