Man shot after attempted knife attack on police
One man is warded at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex after he allegedly attacked two police officers with a knife on Wednesday.
The incident was said to have taken place around midday in Felicity.
Officers on the Central Division received information about a man seen carrying a cutlass, while acting in an aggressive manner.
Two officers were sent out to the scene and on arriving they called on the suspect to lower his weapon.
The man apparently complied with police officers and dropped the blade to the ground.
He was then approached by the two lawmen.
However, it was said that without warning, he pulled out a much smaller blade which he had tucked into his waist and attacked the lawmen.
One of the officers drew their licensed firearm and shot at the suspect, hitting him in his leg.
The wounded man the dropped the second weapon.
He was then secured by the officers and taken to the Chaguanas District Health Facility where he was treated, before being transferred to the medical complex.
Up to 9am today he was said to still be warded under police guard.
