Police officers came under fire in Port of Spain Thursday while conducting routine exercises in the capital city.
According to police reports, around 10am yesterday, officers of the Port of Spain CID and the Port of Spain Task Force were conducting patrols along Nelson Street, Port of Spain, when they observed a man known to them.
Without warning, the man allegedly pulled out a firearm and shot at the officers.
Fearful for their lives, the lawmen took cover and returned fire, hitting the suspect in the right leg.
The wounded man was rushed to the Port of Spain General hospital where he was treated.
Up to this morning he was said to be in a stable condition, but under police guard.
A 9mm pistol and several rounds of ammunition were allegedly seized on the scene.
