Man shot and killed as police rescue woman from brutal attack

Quick action by officers of the Chaguanas Police Station, potentially saved the life of a 45-year-old woman, who was being brutally attacked by her common-law husband on Friday.

Police received a report at the Chaguanas Operations Centre and immediately responded.

When officers arrived on the scene, they heard screams coming from inside the house.

Upon checking, they realized there was some commotion on the southern side of the building.

It was there that they discovered the woman on the floor, being repeatedly chopped by a man.

Officers called out to the man to stand down, but he continued his assault.

At this stage, officers took two shots at the man who collapsed.

Officers disarmed the assailant and were able to rescue the woman.

She was taken for medical treatment and is currently warded.

The common-law husband was taken for medical treatment, but he succumbed to his injuries.
