Man shot during confrontation with police

A 60-year-old man is aiding police with inquiries following a public shootout in Maloney.

The incident, which resulted in the man being shot, took place around 9.30 pm on Monday.

It began at Savannah Drive, Arouca, when officers of the Northern Division Emergency Response Patrol observed a vehicle with three occupants parked in the middle of the roadway.

When officers attempted to intercept the vehicle, the driver sped away instead.

The lawmen pursued the suspected car.

It eventually stopped at Flamingo Boulevard, Maloney Gardens.

One man got out of the car and allegedly opened fire.

The police drew their licensed firearms and returned fire.

During the exchange, however, the armed suspect fled the scene.

A 60-year-old man who was in the car at the time was shot in the left shoulder.

A 33-year-old woman, who was in the back seat of the car, was unharmed.

The injured man was rushed for medical treatment, police said.

The woman was questioned and released.
