Man shot in the face by bar next to Penal Police Station

A 56-year-old man has been left nursing a gunshot injury to his face following a shooting in Penal on Sunday night.

The victim has been identified as Dexter “Crazy” Thomas.

According to police reports, around 9 pm on Sunday, Thomas was liming near a popular bar along the SS Erin Road – a few buildings away from the Penal Police Station – when a vehicle drove past the bar.

An explosion was heard, and Thomas felt a burning sensation to the left side of his face.

He then realised he had been shot.

The police and emergency health services were notified and the wounded man was rushed to the San Fernando General Hospital.

Thankfully, the injury was not life threatening, and Thomas was discharged some hours later.

A team of officers, under the supervision of Sgt Gokool, are said to be continuing inquiries.

Arrests are said to be imminent.
