Man shot by police during Trincity shootout

One man is said to be nursing gunshot injuries, following a confrontation with police in Trincity on Monday afternoon.

The incident reportedly took place at about 3:30 pm on November 12, 2018, in the vicinity of Casselton Avenue and the Priority Bus route.

According to police reports, officers of the Northern Division – namely the Arouca Police Station and the Northern Division Task Force –  were responding to a report of a robbery, when they intercepted a vehicle with persons matching the description they were given of the assailants.

When the officers attempted to intercept, they heard several loud explosions, and the front windscreen had gunshot holes.

The officers pulled aside, exited the vehicle and took cover.

They then drew their licensed firearms and, fearful for their lives as well as the lives of civilians within sufficient proximity, returned fire.

In the aftermath, one of the suspects was hit in his leg and fell to the ground.

The other two men attempted to escape, however, they were both captured.

One man was captured immediately, while the third was captured within the hour following a comprehensive search of the area.

More on this as it becomes available.
