Man shot while liming with girlfriend

Two people have been left nursing gunshot injuries following separate shootings in Arouca and Maloney.

In the first incident, a 25-year-old man was shot while liming with his girlfriend around 8 pm on Wednesday along the south-eastern side of the La Resource Savannah, in Maloney.

According to police reports, the couple was approached by two men, one armed with a firearm. Both men’s faces were covered.

Realising what was about to happen he told his girlfriend to run.

The armed man was heard saying, “Alya want to run!?” before shots were fired.

The man was struck by a bullet in his upper right hand.

The couple took refuge in a nearby house, while the assailants fled the scene.

The police and paramedics were notified and the injured man was rushed for medical treatment. He remains warded at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex.

In the second incident, a teenager was shot riding his bicycle along Waterloo Road, Arouca.

The 17-year-old told police that around 4pm on Thursday he was riding his bike, when he observed another man riding a bicycle coming from the opposite direction. The other rider, without warning, pulled out a firearm and shot the teenager.

The 17-year-old was wounded to the chest and left arm while the shooter escaped riding off in the direction he came.

The police and paramedics were notified and the injured boy was rushed for medical treatment.

He remains warded at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex in a stable, but serious condition.
