Man wanted for $2M drug bust, arrested in pirogue off Chaguaramas

A 30-year-old Carenage man wanted in connection with a TT$2 million drug bust in November 2018 was arrested by police officers on Thursday.

The suspect was held on a pirogue off Macqueripe Bay, Chaguaramas, in a joint anti-crime exercise with the Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard around 5 am on Thursday.

The accused was wanted by police for the seizure of 154 packages of marijuana, nine high-powered automatic assault rifles and 16 magazines, one of which contained 18 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition.

The exercise was spearheaded by acting ASP Veronique of the Special Investigations Unit and included officers of the Special Operations Response Team, Strategic Services Agency, TT Coast Guard and Special Naval Unit.
