Opposing candidates for Barataria/San Juan, Jason Williams and Saddam Hosein embrace after filing nomination papers.

The constituency of Barataria/San Juan will have a new parliamentary representative regardless of which of the two major political parties is voted in.

The United National Congress’ (UNC) Saddam Hosein aims to replace his colleague, Dr Fuad Khan at the polls on August 10.

With this being his first go at the electoral race, Senator Hosein said he’s sure he can return the seat to his party.

His opponent across the Senate floor, Jason Williams, will also have his first time at the polls representing the People’s National Movement in the same area.

Williams says he looks forward to serving the community he lives in and hopes that the other new politicians keep running clean campaigns.

The two candidates embraced each other as they filed their nomination papers in Barataria today.
