Mario's Pizza donates 250 pizzas to flood victims

Flooded residents in South Trinidad may be able to enjoy a hot meal tonight, thanks to Mario's Pizza.

The local pizza company said via social media that 250 pizzas were sent to flood victims through the Penal/Debe Regional Corporation.

"This evening, 250 pizzas were sent to the Penal Corporation in collaboration with our friends at FEEL (the Foundation for the enhancement and enrichment of life) to bring a warm meal to victims of the catastrophic flooding experienced over the past days.

Let’s all do our part to help our neighbours in their time of need!"

The relief effort was done in part with F.E.E.L. (Foundation for the Enhancement & Enrichment of Life)

Many families remained trapped in their homes on Thursday as riverine flooding continued, and the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service issued an Orange Alert for riverine flooding following news that some rivers burst their banks, leaving some roads impassable.

Emergency responders were on the ground and the Ministry of Rural Development and Local Government said up to 15 families had been evacuated on Wednesday.

Waters in parts of Penal reached over seven feet on some places, and some families said their supplies of food and water were running out.

Citizens affected by flooding are urged to contact their Local Disaster Management Units and to follow the Met Office for the latest updates.
