Marlene McDonald’s husband remains behind bars

Michael Carew, the companion of former Public Administration Minister Marlene McDonald, is still in jail.

His relatives are attempting to secure his bail, which has been set at $500,000.

Carew remains behind bars due to a procedural issue.

The documents provided to the Justice of Peace for bail are being examined.

The process is expected to be completed within the next 48 hours.

Carew’s wife, McDonald secured bail last Thursday after appearing in court.

McDonald and Carew are among five people who have been charged with several offences including conspiracy to defraud the state and money laundering.

Carew, 74, and contractor Victor McEachrane, 65, are the only two yet to secure bail.

Former National Commission for Self Help Ltd Chairman Edgar Zephyrine was able to secure bail a day after his court appearance, while Wayne Anthony secured his bail on the first day.
