Massy Stores has launched an initiative to attract more customers with its bid to make eyewear more affordable and accessible for its loyal patrons.

Massy Stores and Optometrist Today signed an agreement to offer hire purchase options to thousands of customers at Frederick Street, Port of Spain on Thursday.

Chief Executive Officer of Massy Stores, Derek Winford, said he was pleased to enter into the partnership as it represented a way for both entities to diversify their markets while offering a safe and secure environment for customers.

“We have been talking to them for some time now and we have been looking at ways to diversify, and optical services will now be added, just like how retail is heading internationally.”

Winford noted that a pair of spectacles is sometimes very costly which is where Massy Stores comes in as the company intends to finance the cost of the product over a period of time, while the product is provided by Optometrist Today.

This initiative is called Credit Plus and will be made available in one, two or three-year options depending on a patient’s financial situation. He noted that the interest rates and terms are first-class and can be accessed at any Optometrist Today branch.

General Manager of Optometrist Today Theresa Alexis said today’s agreement with Massy Stores is a way for customers who are feeling the pinch with regards to the current state of the economy to find more affordable options.

“This Credit Plus facility is one of the many ways that we can assist in terms of ensuring that we provide quality eye care for our patients,” she said.

Alexis added that the offer will also be made available to staff and retirees of Massy Stores.

She noted that the purchasing of eyewear has remained constant, even though the economic decline has affected sales.

“We noticed that people are more prudent with what they spend and how they buy and we now have a way in which the purchase of products can be easily effected.”
