Matura family hosts 'Christmas Treat' for children

For the past 15 years, the Charles Family in Matura has hosted a “Christmas Treat” as a means to celebrate the yuletide season with the young ones in the community.

The tradition was first started by the matriarch of the family, Norma Charles, and it is being maintained and continued by her children, having spun from a celebration of just over a dozen children to having almost 200 young ones attending this year’s event.

This year the event took place once again at the family’s home along the Eastern Main Road, and saw the children engage in a variety of entertaining activities, including archery. There was also a toy distribution activity, where gifts were given to these young ones by a very merry Santa Clause who came to bring the Christmas cheer to the community’s children.

There was also an array of edible treats and drinks, such as pop corn, phoulorie, hot dogs, and BBQ for adults.

The entire event was all prepared and sponsored by the family and well wishers in the community.  The family is hopeful that they can expand their acts of goodwill next year.
