Mechanic in court for drug trafficking

A 26-year-old mechanic has appeared before a San Fernando Magistrate charged with the offence of possession of marijuana for the purposes of trafficking.

Keith Yard, of Marabella, was allegedly held with two kilogrammes of marijuana.

He was remanded in custody following his first appearance before magistrate Jo-Anne Connor.

The matter is expected to be recalled tomorrow.

Yard was represented by attorney Frank Gittens.

PC Kareem George was the complainant (charging officer) in the matter.

Inspector Cleyon Seedan represented the State as the police prosecutor.

The court was told that around 10.40 pm on Tuesday, Yard was stopped during a roadblock exercise along the Southern Main Road, St Margaret’s Village.

Yard began acting suspiciously manner, when asked by the police if he had anything illegal, Yard admitted, 'I have some kilos in the car.'

The drugs were found in the backseat.

He was arrested and charged as a result.
