Media not invited to Sat Maharaj's funeral

Media personnel have been prohibited from covering the funeral of Secretary General of the Sanatan Dharma Maha Sabha (SDMS), Sat Maharaj.

The Hindu leader passed away on Saturday after complications from a stroke he suffered a week earlier.

A statement from the organisation, signed by President General Pundit Krishna Rambally advised that a decision to bar media was taken by Maharaj's family and the SDMS executive.

Pundit Rambally stated that absolutely no media personnel will be allowed on the compound where the funeral is due to take place, nor at Maharaj's or his family's home.

The decision was taken after what the SDMS said was a lack of respect for the family's wishes by a particular reporter. However, the organisation said it did no lt wish to express which media house the reporter was from.

The statement did not elaborate beyond this, except to say that the SDMS did not wish to engage in any dispute "with any fraction of media".

The funeral of the late Sat Maharaj takes place at the Lakshmi Girls Hindu College on Tuesday.
