The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Society has issued a Hazardous Seas Alert – Yellow Level.
It is scheduled to take effect on Sunday 19 January at 9 pm and end on Tuesday 21 January at 3 pm.
Area affected includes coastal and offshore waters around Tobago and North and East of Trinidad.
According to the Met Office, strong low-level winds are expected to agitate sea conditions, mainly around Tobago and to the North and East of Trinidad.
Waves are likely to reach heights between 2.5 m and 3.5 m in open waters. Long-period northerly swells are also forecast to affect nearshore activity around Tobago and Northern Trinidad.
The public is encouraged to monitor sea conditions and exercise caution in coastal and offshore waters. The Met Office advises avoiding entering the sea if unnecessary and be alert for large waves and dangerous currents. Seagoers are asked to follow the instructions of lifeguards and monitor official news sources for updates.
