Mini-mart owners warned to close at 6pm

Warned: A mini-mart owner is spoken to by a police officer regarding the 6pm closing time stipulated for his business.

Warned: A mini-mart owner is spoken to by a police officer regarding the 6pm closing time stipulated for his business.

Mini-mart operators are being reminded that, under the current Public Health Regulations, their business hours are between 8 am and 6 pm.

This reminder comes after four mini-mart owners were warned last night during a police operation in Arima.

Officers of the Arima Police Station, under the supervision of Snr Sup David and Sup Edwards, conducted exercises which saw the lawmen visit several communities in the area.

The officers, under the leadership of Sgt Ali, observed four mini-marts opened, between the hours of 7.30 pm and 9 pm in areas such as Orange Flats and La Retreat Road, and they had cause to stop and speak to these operators, warning them and reminding them of the current laws.

Loop News was told that should the officers have to return on another occasion, they would charge these business owners.

Persons found in breach of the orders can face fines up to $50,000 and even a custodial sentence.
