Minister donates salary toward Dominica relief
Minister of Works and Transport Rohan Sinanan has donated one month's salary to the Dominica Hurricane relief fund.
And he has called on workers in the Ministry to each donate $10 from their salaries this month.
Sinanan made the call on Tuesday morning before turning the sod to begin construction of the Manzanilla Highway.
He said Trinidad and Tobago must be mindful of the disasters that have affected neighboring islands and lend their assistance.
“As we begin the construction of this highway, we must remember the people in our region, especially our neighbours. We in Trinidad have so much to be grateful for and so much we take for granted,” he said.
“I have decided therefore that I will donate my entire salary for the month of September to the relief fund of Dominica as a sign of solidarity and goodwill to our brothers and sisters in Dominica who have a long journey of recovery ahead.
"I urge each and every employee of the Ministry of Works and Transport to donate at least $10 of his or her salary this month towards this cause of rebuilding Dominica.
"Systems will be placed in each department of the Ministry so that those persons interested in lending a hand and reaching out to Dominican can make that contribution."
Sinanan said he was certain that there were generous persons in the Ministry who would heed the call and help those less fortunate and in dire need of assistance.
