Minister issues Eid ul Fitr greetings

Minister of Rural Development and Local government, Kazim Hosein, said the occasion of Eid ul Fitr is one for joy, reflection and peace.

In a statement issued Thursday before the Eid ul Fitr holiday on June 15, Hosein urged the public to practice the virtues of patience, peace and charity not just on Eid but throughout the year.

"As the month of Ramadan comes to an end, I would like to wish Muslims in Trinidad and Tobago and all over the world, Eid Mubarak on the occasion of Eid ul Fitr."

"Today is a day of rejoicing and bliss for our community. It is a day of blessing and peace, and for us not only to celebrate these blessings, but to reflect and ponder the sacrifices that we have made during the Holy Month."

"Eid marks a joyous end to the Holy Month of fasting and spiritual renewal – Ramadan – in which we deepen our understanding of Islam and reaffirm our faith in Almighty Allah. β€œFor those who have Taqwa, there is Triumph (Paradise).” (Holy Quran 78:31). But we should never forget that Almighty God does not only exist in the Holy Month."

"This is why we should continue all the beautiful things we were doing in the month of Ramadan throughout the rest of the year. The Holy Month of Ramadan is the month which trains us to practice patience, to be generous and helpful with one another. We should regard it as the month in which we train and discipline ourselves for continued devotion for the remaining eleven months."

"Let us continue the same passion for the rest of the year, the passion that we had during this month. And let us teach our children and young people to do the same," he said.

Hosein added that the Eid festival is just part of what makes Trinidad and Tobago such a diverse and multicultural nation.

"Eid Ul Fitr is a festival characterized by engaging in extra worship to the one true Almighty God, charitable giving, generous hospitality, and togetherness with family and friends."

" I urge all citizens to reflect on the contribution the Muslim community like so many other faith communities makes to our beautiful, diverse and multicultural nation."

"Once again I would like to take the opportunity to wish Eid Mubarak to our Muslim Community at home and abroad. May you all have a very happy and blessed Eid Ul Fitr. Enjoy these amazing days and remember those who need our help."

"May this special day bring peace, happiness and prosperity to our beloved land of Trinidad and Tobago; and may Almighty Allah accept our good deeds, forgive our transgressions and sins, and ease the suffering of all people around the globe. Ameen," he said.
