Minister remembers late councillor as 'Gentle Giant'

The death of Barataria councillor Pernell Bruno has left the Local Government fraternity in mourning.

Bruno passed away on Saturday following a brief battle with cancer.

In a statement extending condolences on the councillor’s passing, Rural Development and Local Government Minister Kazim Hosein said he would be dearly remembered for his service to the people of Barataria, as well as his approach to dealing with matters at hand in a strategic, but humble manner.

Hosein recalled that on his last visit to the San Juan/Laventille Regional Corporation it was clear the Council is a very close-knit family.

He empathised with the members of the Council, noting that he was described as a “Gentle Giant” who appreciated all members of Council and staff at the Corporation.

“Councillor Bruno’s passing comes as a shock to the Local Government fraternity and we mourn the great loss of such a humble, philanthropic man who served his burgesses with great dedication.

The San Juan/Laventille Regional Council will uphold their duty as representatives elected by the people, to ensure that the burgesses of his district continue to receive the excellent service which Councillor Bruno practiced.”

Hosein offered prayers to the family and loved ones of the late councillor during this difficult time. Chairman Anthony Roberts will temporarily assume responsibility for the Barataria Electoral District.
