Minister Rohan: Ferry passengers will be provided for

Works and Transport Minister Rohan Sinanan said all ferry passengers with confirmed tickets will be accommodated on Caribbean Airlines flights.

Speaking in the Senate on Tuesday, Sinanan said the T&T Spirit was expected to return to service by March 13 however he said there is still some outstanding work to be addressed and the vessel is now due to return to service by March 22, 2018.

At this time, persons who wish to travel from March 23 and onward can purchase their ferry tickets or terminals or at the remote agents or online. During the period March 13-22, only tickets for the Cabo Star can be purchased.

“The Authority is committed to providing this essential service and will accommodate all passengers on flights from Caribbean Airlines at no extra cost to the passenger.”

“The vehicles or passengers with confirmed tickets will be accommodated on the daily sailing of the Cabo Star and al ticket holders will vehicles will be shuttled by the PTSC to the Piarco International Airport and the ANR International Airport, at no additional cost.”

He said he was told by CAL that an additional plane was put on duty to assist with additional flights.

Speaking on threats by Tobago businesses to shut down, Minister of Trade and Industry, Paula Gopee-Scoon said there was no need for this.

“We admit that the situation is one that is critical…the genesis is the ferry matter, and that we accept.”

“Government has found solutions to the ferry matter, one being the Galleon’s Passage which will arrive very soon. There is no need for a shutdown, it will just have a negative effect on the economy,” she said.

She said the Tobago House of Assembly also met with the Tobago Business Chamber on Tuesday where there were ‘frank’ discussions, the details of which would be released to the public shortly.
