Photographers were given a chance to show the beauty of the Caroni Swamp for a photography exhibition commemorating World Wetlands Day, which was celebrated on February 2, 2020.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Agriculture, Land and Fisheries, the Caroni Swamp Pilot Protected Area Subcommittee of the Improving Forest and Protected Area Management in Trinidad and Tobago (IFPAMTT) project hosted an event last Friday at the Caroni Swamp Visitors Centre from 5-7 pm to mark the 2020 observance of World Wetlands Day.

This year's observance fell under the theme "Wetlands and Biodiversity" and activities were initiated on Sunday 2nd February when artists and photographers were invited to capture aspects of the Caroni Swamp; viz: its biodiversity, the livelihoods associated with this biodiversity and the challenges/threats which face its biodiversity.
In this regard, interested persons were invited to pre-register and were given the opportunity to take a boat tour in the Caroni Swamp on a first-come first-served basis.
On Sunday 2nd, these interested persons captured their images which were then submitted to the project team.
All photographs and presentations were highlighted at Friday’s event.
The Ministry said the objective of the exercise was to convey messages about the biodiversity within the Caroni Swamp wetland and the importance of maintaining this 'very important wetland area'.
The event was hosted by The Project Coordination Unit, Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations.
